As the weather warms up, you’ll probably look for things to do outside. The NFEC Earth Day 5K is a perfect example. For one thing, it offers physical activity. For another, it supports a good cause. Even if you’re not a hardcore athlete, you can participate in a local race.

When and Where

This year’s NFEC Earth Day 5K occurs on Sunday, April 30. If you want to run, walk, or perhaps assist the organizers, head to the Indian Island Country Park. It’s located at 105 Cross River Drive in Riverhead, New York. Because the race begins at 10:00 a.m., you must arrive about an hour earlier.

Participant Information

Because the NFEC Earth Day 5K is so diverse, it’s ideal for individuals, couples, friends, or entire groups. In addition, it’s organized by several age categories. These include:

  • Under 8
  • 9 to 12
  • 13 to 19
  • 20 to 24
  • 25 to 29

  • 55 to 59
  • 60 to 65
  • 65 to 69
  • Over 70

The organizers will announce three male and three female winners for each category. In addition, the race will name the three top overall male and female participants. As a token, each winner will receive a tote bag to reuse.

Supporting the Sponsor’s Mission

You’ll enjoy many benefits by participating in or volunteering for the NFEC Earth Day 5K. At the top of the list, all proceeds will fund the 2023 NFEC Scholarship Fund and different environmental programs designed to educate.

Sponsored by the North Fork Environmental Council, the goal is to help support its mission. So, by attending the race, you’ll help increase the public’s awareness about important environmental and life issues. Overall, this nonprofit works to make it easier for people to hear about and discuss critical topics.

Incredible Benefits

Along with making a difference to improve the environment, this race provides additional benefits. As mentioned, it doesn’t matter if you run or walk the course. Either way, it’s a great workout for the body. At the same time, it’s an excellent stress reliever.

You’ll also have the chance to meet new people within the community while doing something fun with a friend, spouse, or your entire family. Whether you come in first or last, the NFEC Earth Day 5K is a “feel good” event.

It’s also worth noting that you don’t have to live in Riverhead, New York, to compete or volunteer. In other words, you’re welcome whether you live in a different city, state, or country. Instead of sitting home wishing you could find something fun to do, put this race on your calendar.
