School will be starting soon, so you know what that means. If there’s anything left to cross off your bucket list, now is the time to do it. Long Island Aquarium is a great way to spend a day with the family. Check it out this weekend!

Indoor Exhibits

Inside the aquarium, visitors can experience a wide variety of species in their natural habitats. Explore the Amazon Rainforest, home to the Earth’s largest diversity of animal and plant life. Channel your inner Nemo and watch clownfish swim among the anemone. See sand tiger sharks swimming through the Lost City of Atlantis. Feed the residents of Turtle Bay, or find out what a stingray feels like at the Ray Bay exhibit. While touring the indoor exhibits you’ll also encounter frogs, birds, bugs, butterflies, snakes, primates, and more.

Outdoor Exhibits

The aquarium’s outdoor exhibits feature the ruins of an ancient Atlantean marketplace, where reptiles slink and slither about. Japanese snow monkeys climb and swing around the Lost Temple of Atlantis. Nocturnal animals like bats and porcupines can be seen prowling around even in the daytime, thanks to the darkness of the ruins. There’s Otter Falls and a Penguin Pavilion. Also not to be missed are the playful and welcoming seals and sea lions.

Interactive Adventures

There’s a lot more to do at the Long Island Aquarium than merely meander through and observe. You can go for a 2-hour ride aboard the Atlantis Explorer, where you can learn all about the Peconic Estuary. The Eye Opener is a 60-foot, 5-level activity center full of rope bridges, climbing nets, and more. There’s a submarine simulator, pirate snorkel adventure, rock climbing wall, family fun center arcade, and numerous opportunities to encounter (and even take a selfie alongside) penguins, bugs, sea lions, and more.
